A Slow Day

The sale day at Chelsee's was slow...which helped knock me off the high horse I was on after the Deck the Halls opening (see last post's Sally Field moment).

I did sell two small quilts and a very small wall hanging. Oh, and I got another commission - a small one but a commission none the less.

I did get to spend some time catching up with a few friends that came to visit throughout the day...which made it not such a slow day after all.

This Saturday is my 3rd annual Quilt Show and Sale at Chelsee's on Trade Street in the Winston-Salem Downtown Arts District. I'll have almost all my quilts there and I'm hoping some of them find good homes.

Catching Up...Again

I feel like this is the mode I am destined to occupy - catching up. Every weeknight for the past two weeks, I have had a meeting or obligation of some sort and every weekend, I have been somewhere. So here I am...catching up again...

So...LAST weekend was spent at Camp Caraway for the NCQSI Board of Directors Retreat.

It was a great weekend where we did a lot of work and a bit of "getting to know you". After a long day full of Board Meeting, we spent Saturday night having show and tell. Most everyone brought their first and their last quilt as well as shared something "non-quilty" about themselves. It was highly entertaining. We're all looking forward to the next Quilt Symposium in June which will be in the Highlands. I'm starting to save my money now!

Wednesday night, Nane, Go Postal, David and I hung quilts at the Yadkin Cultural Arts Center for a new exhibit going through the end of the year. The theme is "Stitching Generations together". I didn't make it to the gallery opening Friday night, but I'm hoping to have time to stop by this week and get some photos. (The one below is one Nane took and I stole from her blog.)

Thursday, Laura and I headed to Richmond to judge the Richmond Quilter's Guild Quilt Show. To my dismay, I left my camera at home so I can't show you any of the gorgeous quilts we got to judge.

Friday, we drive home from Richmond and I went to set up my booth at Flaunt. The Three Amigas each had their own booth and we got to hang out during the pre-party Friday night and then all day on Saturday. Here are a few highlights.

Then we got "devastating news from the shop"....Beef O'Brady's is closing after this weekend. (This is the restaurant right outside the door of Sew Original and where Quiltkeemosabee and I can find our husbands more often than not.) So, the girls all met at Beef's for the last supper. (Sadly, the boys were too far away to make it to Beef's for dinner. They'll just have to have their own memorial service elsewhere...perhaps we'll order them a couple of beers and some hot wings from some lesser place and they sneak onto the patio at the closed Beef's and pretend.)

And today...I played hooky. I have not left the house and have spent the day catching up on commission work.

I am not caught up yet...but this week is promising and next weekend a wide-open canvas. I am giddy with anticipation.

Well, Now We Know...

We know that Spring is not the time to have a quilt sale. I sold not one thing today.



That's okay. I got to visit with some friends and listen to some good music. (You gotta love Trade Street on a Saturday.)



And I finished another quilt. Here's Moon Dance.

Another silver lining is I pushed to get other quilts done this month so I have lots to add to my OPAM list for April. Here's the rest:

So, even though today didn't turn out as hoped, it still yielded good results.

We ended the day by going over to friend's house for Dinner for Eight. The meal was perfection and the conversation with this group is, well, you just never know what we're going to talk about next with 3 school teachers, 2 attorneys and a health inspector in the room. No matter what, we're entertained.

Quilt Sale Day II

More on the Quilt Sale

My friend, Julie, just sent me the photos she took at the quilt sale yesterday. (Genius here forgot her camera...which is about worthless now anyway so maybe it's not such a loss. hint, hint, Santa)

Here I am with the lady that bought the big quilt on the wall. It's going to a mountain home where it belongs.

Here's "my wall". My quilts hang on this wall of the shop all the time. The wall across from it rotates every month with various artists through Community Arts Cafe. Chelsee's owner, Gena's dad made the wonderful ladder in the middle there.

Here I am with Tina, one of my high school buddies that surprised me with a visit. Tina and I have know each other since we were about 5 years old. Oh, the stories we could tell...but we won't.

Here are all four of us. Julie, me, Tina and Pam. The four of us have known each other since 7th grade. It doesn't matter if 10 days or 10 years have past, we pick up just where we left off.

Here's Julie and me with the quilt she bought. I stopped by her house today and got to see where it now lives happily ever after. I also got to buy some wonderful pottery pieces. Julie has done pottery for more years than I've been quilting and her work is beautiful. The idea was to give them as Christmas gifts but I'm not sure I can part with them. (So if you get pottery from me this year, you will know you must be pretty darn special.)

Quilt Sale Day

The weather cleared up just for me today. I had my big quilt sale at Chelsee's and it was a success. I have 11 fewer quilts and they all went to good homes. I spent the day visiting with friends from near and far. The best part was three high school buddies surprising me with a visit. When I looked up and saw them come in the door, I screamed like a little girl. It was a great day.
